About Us

Mission Statement

Striving to empower individuals with physical, intellectual, and emotional challenges and limitations through safe, fun Equine Assisted Services.

Program Overview

Our program offers regular, supported opportunities for individuals to engage with horses in a structured and meaningful way. Participants take part in hands-on activities and guided riding experiences tailored to their individual abilities.

In addition to these sessions, some participants have the opportunity to take part in the Mounted Eagles competition, and all are invited to share their progress and accomplishments with family and friends at a special end-of-season gathering.

To best support those we serve, our program provides varying levels of assistance during activities and events, tailored to individual needs. Sessions are typically offered in small groups to ensure a supportive and personalized experience, and are intentionally kept affordable compared to similar programs.

Jack Pine Stables is supported by a dedicated group of volunteers, including individuals who have been involved for many years. We also engage high school and college students, offering them meaningful opportunities to work with both horses and individuals with diverse needs. This involvement helps build skills, connections, and a strong sense of community while also supporting the overall well-being of our horses.

History

Jack Pine Stables is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2000 to provide therapeutic horseback riding for individuals with special needs. The program is certified through the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH), the world’s largest and most respected accrediting body in this field.

What began with just four riders has steadily grown to serve approximately 234 participants each summer. Riders range in age from 5 to 75 and represent a wide spectrum of physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges, including individuals considered high-risk.

In 2020, Jack Pine Stables relocated to its current home, “The Farm,” in Akeley, Minnesota. Building on that growth, the organization expanded its services in 2022 to include youth from a residential treatment facility, as well as other at-risk children.
